8 Things To Do In New York City During Christmas

Christmas brings out the magic of any place, wouldn’t you say? One of the most magical places to be during Christmas time is, of course, New York City. Walking through the streets, everywhere you look are glimmering lights and sparkling decorations for the holidays, with the smell of pine trees strong in the air. The atmosphere becomes electric when the weather cools down, the streets light up, and you can just feel the excitement in the air: Christmas is coming.
Well, while you’re in the city during this wonderful time of year, there are countless things you can do all over. We decided to round up eight things to do in NYC during the holiday season for you to explore and enjoy the city.

Explore Sixth Avenue

If you wanna see incredible giant Christmas decorations, take a stroll down sixth avenue. You’ll see giant red ornaments, Christmas lights, nutcrackers, and more.

Rockefeller Center

There is no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to go and see the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Lit with no less than 50,000 LED lights in various colors, this magnificent tree is topped with a sparkling Swarovski star. It’s normally lit at the end of November and stays up until around January 7th.

Ice Skate

Ice skating is the perfect winter activity, especially around Christmas time. There are several rinks in the city for you to choose from. There is one in Central Park, one in Rockefeller Center, and also Bryant Park. Just keep in mind that there will be price differences as well as lines for each rink. If you choose to go to Rockefeller Center, for instance, you should aim to get there earlier in the day so it will be less crowded.

Walk Down Fifth Avenue

Another fun stroll through the city is down fifth avenue to admire the gorgeous festive window displays. The fancy shops tend to go all out and spare no expenses when decorating their windows for Christmas.

Go To A Museum

While this might not be a Christmas-focused activity, going to visit a museum while in NYC is always a great experience. There are so many options to choose from, like the MOMA, and the Met. In any case, being indoors for a day is a nice way to take a break from the cold weather outside.

Check Out Macy’s

Go to Macy’s in Herald’s Square – they transform the 8th floor in their store into Santaland for Christmas! It becomes a magical land that will make you feel as if you were transported to the North Pole.

Christmas Markets

A fun activity to do while in the City is to explore the Christmas markets. There are plenty to choose from. From Union Square to Columbus Circle and Bryant Park, you’ll be able to find unique and festive things to buy as well as delicious foods to try.

Walk In Dyker Heights

If you wanna see the most over-the-top Christmas lights, all you need to do is head to Dyker Heights in Brooklyn. The residents of the neighborhood go all out for the holiday, and the decorations are magnificent to look at!
