She Didn’t Get Her B.A. For An Extra 4 Years!
Despite completing all the requirements on time, Amy did not get her diploma when she graduated from Towson University in 2003. Why? Because the University charged a fee to post her credits and Amy thought this was ridiculous. She refused to pay and therefore didn’t get her diploma. The University gave it to her 4 years later when she passed through Baltimore while on the Last Comic Standing Tour. The Towson theater department chairperson was a fan of the show and promised Amy he would give her the diploma if she met him with cash.
A Howard Stern Interview Landed Her A Movie Deal
Amy Schumer appeared on The Howard Stern show in 2012. The “Trainwreck” director Judd Apatow heard it and was instantly sold. “Amy was so interesting that I didn’t leave, I just sat there in my car listening,” he said during an interview. “She was telling all these stories about her relationships, and about her dad and how she deals with that emotionally. It was very brutal, and also very sweet and funny. I thought, ‘Wow, she really sounds like a screenwriter.’” Not soon after the show, Apatow arranged a meeting with Amy to discuss a screenplay. That became the movie Trainwreck!
