Matt Damon is one of Hollywood’s most well-known faces, but his dedication to projects can also be seen in the effort he puts into his character performances. For a smaller role in Courage Under Fire, Damon, for example, went on a 100-day diet that included running and exercising. Damon only had to be on set for two days, but he committed to the process by losing weight to play an opiate-addicted soldier. Damon was 40 pounds lighter at the end of the process, and he gave an outstanding performance.

In American History X, Edward Norton played Derek, a notorious character who had to pack on muscle weight and develop a six-pack. The fact that he did it in only three months is incredible – talk about major inspiration. The preparations included rigorous fitness training and tattoo drawings. According to rumors, his tattoos and buffness drew Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attention, who wanted to know if steroids were used.
