John Caudwell was an A-levels dropout when he started working for Michelin Tires. However, things changed when he went into the then-new world of mobile phones. It was 1986, so not many major telecom companies were present in the U.K. Together with his brother, he founded Midland Mobile Phones and started selling mobiles wholesale. They later entered retail with Phones 4u, their breakout company. The company later began to operate under the parent company called Caudwell Group and earned record-breaking digits.
