So, Jonna had no idea what to expect when she met David’s family. She was worried they might not accept her, or that she might accidentally do or say something offensive. Turns out, she had a great experience and was pleasantly surprised. Jonna stated, “They were sweet, accepting and holy shit they had lights on in their house. I thought to myself, “How? How do they have lights? How is that lighter igniting this contraption? Oh, it’s LP gas, okay.”

Absolutely Zero Make-Up
Jonna obviously is a modern woman and doesn’t follow the rules for women. She doesn’t dress modestly and also loves makeup! Amish women are not allowed to wear literally any makeup. No foundation, no eyeshadow, no blush, not even sheer lip gloss. Women should have a totally bare face. It is supposed to give a “genuine and honest” look. Jonna couldn’t help but wonder if she would be asked to change or feel excluded by the family. She was the opposite of all their values after all.
