Aside from draining her bank accounts, Tom Burris also inflicted physical and emotional abuse on Karen. She stood up for herself by changing the contents of her will and testament. Instead of naming him a beneficiary, she clarified that everything she owns would go to her family members. The couple called it quits after they fought publicly while at a restaurant. Karen wrote a petition for divorce in 1982.
