These days, force feeding someone suffering from anorexia nervosa is a big no-no. However, no one knew it back then so Karen had to undergo it. Simply put, no one understood that anorexia and bulimia were both mental disorders. After all, it was fairly new diagnoses. Sadly, no one knew that force feeding someone with an eating disorder can only exacerbate the situation.

The Funeral
Karen Carpenter’s funeral saw over a thousand mourners. Many of them must have seen her transformation from a healthy weight to a malnourished state over the years. However, Karen never actually revealed that she was ill. Her passing was a huge eye-opener and allowed anorexia to be taken seriously.
