Karen actually got her wish sometime in August 1980! She started dating Thomas James Burris after they met each other in the Beverly Hills Hotel in the latter half of the month. He was a real estate developer nine years her senior. He also had a teenaged son from a previous marriage. These details did not bother Karen, however.
